 Family background

Private Edmund John Hedger was the son of William and Harriet Hedger, of High Haly, Petworth. His father was a waggoner and in 1911 the family were living at High Hoes, just to the south of Petworth. Edmund was the eldest of four children; he had two sisters Eliza and Emma and a brother William.

Military career

Private Edmund John Hedgerenlisted in Chichester into the Royal Sussex.

Death & commemoration

Private Edmund John Hedgerwas killed in action on 21 September 1918 aged 21. He was awarded the British and Victory medals. He is commemorated on the Vis-En-Artois Memorial.
